“KFI has introduced not only technology, but also an innovative mentality that has brought added value in the organisation of work and CDU growth”.
This sentence closed the exciting interview with Aldo Basile – General Manager of CDU Consorzio Distributori Utensili – after he described the development path, carried out together with KFI in search of a solution that could render certain logistic activities more efficient and that, finally, has led to the implementation of “Vocalize” voice solution for the optimisation of the voice picking process in the warehouse.
The project developed is significant because it expresses a value that KFI wishes to share with its customers in everyday life: that of economic sustainability and work ethics, with a strong focus on betting together with the customer on results and timing.
As we were able to happily find through the CDU case study, whereby the company was able to repay the technological and innovative intervention after a few months, proceeding with technological transformation is not a cost, but an investment which brings concrete benefits in the short-to-medium term.
Having a comprehensive overview, we can say that taking steps in the optimisation of logistics processes, after an in-depth analysis of the specific case, is an economically sustainable choice.
Serene and less fatigued operators thanks to voice picking
However, it is fair to underline that the work we undertake to render the logistics of companies more innovative, is not just about numbers. Broadening the view, it is easy to realise that taking care of the whole process means first of all paying greater attention to people.
The demonstration, resuming the interview with Aldo Basile, can be seen in the following quote:
“Initially the operators were sceptical about the voice solution. However, after testing it, they realised that they travel much less and are less tired at the end of their shift. This has allowed them to better face even the work peaks associated with the first days of the month, so much so that now they are able to close the shift as in normal periods. In fact, we have achieved an approx. 15-20% increase in productivity. Currently, operators are so used to following the voice guiding them that, if they were to start making pickings in an analogue way, they would probably take greater pains“.
Furthermore, in order to analyze the sustainability related to the quality of work, it is necessary to consider the fact that the optimisation of activities with the help of technology does not have the purpose of reducing the work of people – although such activities often fill their days – but to assign operators to jobs that bring greater value to their time, give greater satisfaction, and a sense of participation to last until the end of the shift.
KFI a reliable and professional partner
Furthermore, there is one last aspect to highlight: the importance of timing. Organisation accuracy and punctuality are increasingly determining factors in our sector, despite the difficulties in finding raw materials that we, and our suppliers, have been facing for a year now.
It is not always possible to satisfy the needs submitted to us; however, the principle we try to share with our customers is to work transparently on both sides. This is why we try to keep our promises.
“This is the first time I’ve seen a Gantt respected with such precision, it had never happened to me before. KFI has met all deadlines and I am aware of how difficult this is when it comes to software”, added Aldo Basile.
